Acupuncture is a medical science having its historical origins in the traditional Chinese medicine. Its aim is to provide a therapeutic effect by stimulating specific points on the body, with metal needles.

The practice of this discipline requires a good knowledge of the traditional occidental medicine, the theories of the tradionional chinese medicine and the exact location of the acupuncture points and their actions.

A medical diagnosis is necessary before to treat by acupuncture. The medical doctor acupuncturist is the obvious person to determine wheter a pathology can be treated by acupuncture or not.

The insertion of the needle is not very painful. Sometimes, the points are heated (moxa) or stimulated by electricity.

Acupuncture is also possible to treat children: manual pressures on the points are used without needles.

One session of acupuncture takes 20 to 30 min. At the beginning, the most frequency of treatment is one or twice a week.
